bedroom, 1,500 square foot concrete block structure.
George Lewis was the president of the Lewis State Bank, founded
by his grandfather in 1856. After meeting Frank Lloyd Wright in
1948 at Florida Southern College, Mrs. Clinton Lewis asked him
to design a house for their family. It was designed as a
"hemicycle" in 1952 by Frank Lloyd Wright. The first "hemicycle"

Set of 23
photographs of the exterior of the Lewis Residence. Designed
by Frank Lloyd Wright for 1952. The home is a two-story,
three bedroom, 1,500 square foot concrete block structure.
George Lewis was
the president of the Lewis State Bank, founded by his
grandfather in 1856. After meeting Frank Lloyd Wright in
1948 at Florida Southern College, Mrs. Clinton Lewis asked
him to design a house for their family. It was designed as a
"hemicycle" in 1952 by Frank Lloyd Wright. The first
"hemicycle" home Frank Lloyd Wright designed was the Jacobs
II (1944). He also designed the Meyer (1948), Laurent
(1949), Pearce (1950), Marden (1952), Llewellyn Wright
(1953), George Lewis (1952), Cooke (1953), Rayward (1955)
and the Spencer (1956). It is similar in design to the
Llewellyn Wright house.
Like the Jacobs II house, the living room is two story with
an open hallway on the second level servicing the three
bedrooms.
The kitchen is
within the circular tower. One of the features Wright
designed was a pool, fed from a natural spring on the
property.

The house became
known as "Spring House," although the pool was never built
due to lack of funds, and the Lewis's busy schedule. Over
the past few decades, the home has fallen into disrepair. In
2014, it was included in the National Trusts 11 most
endangered Places.
The home is now owned by the Lewis's daughter, Byrd Lewis
Mashburn, who understandably was not as receptive to our
quick stop to view her home, so we were unable to fully
capture the essence to the design. We were only able to
capture the "public side" of the home. She asked for a 24
hour notice which is not always conducive on a road trip.
