Description:
Aerial Perspective of the Ben Rebhuhn
Residence. Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation #3801.001. Designed by
Frank Lloyd Wright in 1937. The library is on the left, the
living room is in the foreground on the right. This is
considered by many to be Wright’s third Usonian House. The first
being
Jacobs I
(1936 - S.234). The second, the
Hanna House
(1936 - S.235). The fourth being the
Charles L.
Manson Residence (1938 -
S.249). Where as the Jacobs I and somewhat the Hanna are
L-shaped Usonians, the Rebhuhn is a cruciform and the Manson is
generally in-line. Constructed of brick, cypress and concrete
for the floor. The house is two-story, with a second floor
balcony looking over a two-story living room. Glass is liberally
used throughout the house. Although there are no doors in the
living room, the windows are nearly two-stories tall, wrap
around three sides, with mitered glass corners. The dining room
has floor to ceiling doors on the two outer walls. The library
has windows on two sides. There are three cantilevered
trellises, off the Western end of the library, the Southern end
of the living room and the Eastern end of the dining room.

Ben Rebhuhn
Residence, Great Neck Estates, New York 2018 (1937 - S.240). Set of 58 exterior photographs of
the Ben Rebhuln Residence. Photographed on April 5, 2018 during
a trip to New York. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1937. This
is considered by many to be Wright’s third Usonian House. The
first being Jacobs I
(1936 - S.234). The second, the
Hanna House (1936 -
S.235). The fourth being the Charles L.
Manson Residence (1938 - S.249). Where as the Jacobs I
and somewhat the Hanna are L-shaped Usonians, the Rebhuhn is a
cruciform and the Manson is generally in-line.
Constructed of brick, cypress and concrete for the floor. The
house is two-story, with a second floor balcony looking over a
two-story living room. Glass is liberally used throughout the
house. Although there are no doors in the living room, the
windows are nearly two-stories tall, wrap around three sides,

end of the
library, the Southern end
of the living room and the Eastern end of the dining room.
Ben Rebhuhn was a publisher at Horizon Press and published many
of Frank Lloyd Wright’s books. He compared Wright "as the
Beethoven of eye-music" and referred to Wright as "the eternal
perennial." In 1952 the Rebhuhns approached Wright for a second
time to design a summer home for them in Fort Myers, Florida.
For additional information on the second design see,

Lloyd Wright Quarterly, Winter 2002.
Photographed on during a trip to New York City on September 21,
2021 by Douglas M. Steiner. We headed to Grand Central Station
and caught the train to Great Neck Estates on Long Island. It
was overcast and rained off and on. Our intent is to record the
details that create the totality of the design, creating a
complete picture. In an effort to expedite adding these
photographs to this website, we have dispensed with a
description for each photograph. Set of 58 high res 20 X 13.5
